Haymarket Bicycles/SEAVS completed its domination of the Howard County Double Cross elite races with two more top finishes at Rockburn Cross, race #9 in the BikeReg.com MABRAcross series. Jared Nieters, Haymarket boss and Verge Sport MABRAcross points leader, took the top spot for the elite men and Patty Buerkle capped off the weekend sweep by winning the women’s race.
Schooley Mill Cross, now in its second year as part of the BikeReg.com MABRAcross series offered up racers a revamped course on the stellar equestrian grounds of this pristine Howard County park in Maryland. Last year’s course had been lauded by some for its attendance to the needs of so-called power riders. This year that characteristic was retained but the addition of three distinct technical course features helped neutralize the advantage of those big guns, though if those big guns are big enough they should still win!
As Joe Dombrowski (Haymarket Bicycles-SEAVS) made his way through the final turns of his warm-up lap at the 2010 Tacchino Ciclocross he came upon a shocked announcer who informed the pre-race favorite that the men’s elite field had already started and the lead group was about two minutes up the road. Calm beyond his years, the 18year old Dombrowski began stripping off his extra gear as he rolled down to the start line. After a brief conversation with the officials, it was game on.
Haymarket Bicyles-SEAVS continued its domination of the top podium spot at BikeReg.com MABRAcross series races with several victories at Saturday’s All Hallows Cross. Race organizer Pax Velo offered Mid-Atlantic cyclocross racers a challenging course, and mother nature pitched in with a perfect day. In its second year, All Hallows Cross featured several course changes that resulted in raves from those in attendance. Highlights from last year’s race, the ride through the barn and the single track remained. These elements were complemented by two long twisty horse ring sand pits and a reworked front section that offered new opportunities for technical riders as well as those able to produce the big watts.
With over 700 registered riders, DCCX, race #5 in the BikeReg.com MABRAcross Series, is one of the biggest shows in cyclocross the East Coast will see this year. It is also the battleground for several close Verge Sport MABRAcross leaders jersey competitions.
